You can’t go past The Flower Farm Birkdale if you’re in the Redlands area of South East Queensland. Literally – the shocking pink building is impossible to miss as you whizz along the road. Nestled in deepest suburbia, the colour is not the only incongruous thing about this thriving flower farm. It rubs shoulders with family homes and lowsets, its tunnels of gerbera and gladioli overlooking swimming pools and barbecues. Run by a multigenerational family, with Sharon as its driving force, Birkdale Flowers has recently embraced social media, leaping to 1000 Likes in just a few months. And you can’t help liking this place, from the cheery paint job, the handy location, to the on-site flower shop always stocked with a variety of arrangements and bouquets. If you can’t make it to the shop, Birkdale Flowers are regular faces at local farmers’ markets, with buckets of bright gerbera and mixed bunches of home-grown blooms always a popular drawcard.
